It is no surprise that the atmosphere of a room has an effect on the way people inside that room feel. Quite frankly: if it wouldn't be like that, I think that I (or all architects, for that matter) would be out of job.
Oddly enough, there hasn't been to much profound research into this field. Recently, there has been some slow advancement in the field. A recent study focuses on the effect of ceiling height on people's state of mind. It is said that high ceilings strengthens creative thinking. And a lower room encourages people to think more practical and focused.
That leaves me with one question: how many design offices have the "conceptual thinkers" in a room with heigh ceilings, and the more technical skilled designers in a room with low ceilings? It could probably be a huge boost to productivity...
