In an old quarry in China, Atkins Architecture Group designed this resort, taking the "natural" situation of the quarry into account. the lowest levels of the resort are based on water-oriented activities, with swimming pools, spas and such. To add an extra uniqueness to it all: there's also a bunch of underwater rooms.
Cantilevered over the edge of the quarry is an extreme sports unit, with rock-climbing features, bungee-jump installation and such.
It's not just a slick (almost kitschy) image to sell the resort, that's a bit over the top - it was a competition entry after all - but there's also a more ecological approach: the building fits in with the surrounding, but also works with ground heat extraction, green roofs and the lot.
